The association was established in 2001 when the former two associations for diagnostics (SVEDIF) and instruments (IM-LAB) merged together under the name Swedish Instrument & Diagnostics Trade Association, SINDIF. With the turn of the year 2006 this name changed, and the association has since been called Swedish Labtech. With its member companies Swedish Labtech covers the main part of the market.

The association works with improving the conditions for the member companies in different ways. Swedish Labtech has dialogs with authorities and customers on behalf of the members and is active as a link for information and communication between the actors (public and private) in the industry.
